Real Water Saving Concept

    Pertanian adalah satu industri yang paling banyak menggunakan(consume) air. Perkataan "consume" dan "use" untuk air berbanding dengan wang adalah berbeza. Consuming water means that the water will change its phase from liquid to gas by going through evapotranspiration, crop transpiration and etc. Using water means that the water will not change its phase but maybe it will change its quality from good to poor. For an example, Hydroelectric power generated from the mechanism of turbine powered by water. It will use water but the consumption of water is very low. Most of the used water will enter into the stream. In contrary, agriculture activities has higher water consumption than hydroelectricity with same amount of water intake due to crop transpiration. That is why consume and use bring a different meaning for water in order to understand real water saving concept.

    Dalam pertanian, terdapat pelbagai jenis sistem saliran yang boleh digunakan, contohnya:

  1.  Drip Irrigation
  2.  Sprinkler Irrigation
  3.  Border Irrigation
  4.  Sub Surface Irrigation 
  5.  Supplemental Irrigation dan lain-lain.

Sistem saliran tersebut mempunyai kelebihan dan kekurangan yang tersendiri terutamanya dari segi kecekapan penggunaan air dan penjimatan air. Air yang digunakan dalam pertanian akan digunakan untuk tanaman, tersejat, diserap masuk ke tanah dan ada air yang berlebihan akan disalurkan ke sungai semula seperti dalam gambar di bawah.



 

Sebahagian air dalam sistem saliran boleh digunakan semula contohnya air bawah tanah atau air berlebihan yang disalurkan ke sungai iaitu "recoverable return flow".  Manakala Non-Recoverable return flow dan Non-Beneficial Consumption perlu dikurangkan dengan kaedah sistem saliran yang berbeza. Begitu juga dengan dengan recoverable return flow. Pengurangan tiga perkara tersebut adalah sangat bermanfaat terutamanya Non-Beneficial consumption dan Non-Recoverable return flow kerana ia akan meningkatkan lagi water storage at basin level. Maka, penggunaan air akan menjadi lebih efisien dan lebih banyak aktiviti pertanian boleh diusahakan.

Penyesalan IDP

Assalamualaikum.
Setelah ak tamat belajar di UTM, ak agak kecewa dengan sikap malas dan ambil ringan terhadap pembelajaran. "Job Hunting" banyak menyedarkan diriku bahawa ilmu yang dipelajari adalah sngt bermanfaat dan praktikal terutamanya semasa Integrated Design Project. Infrastructure Design dan Strutural Design adalah teramat penting untuk kita kuasai dan fahami. Korang yg masih belajar tu, nnti IDP fokus dan bincang la betul2 + serius, memang tak rugi. Jangan semata-mata nak dapat grade yang bagus je. Aish. Share betul2 apa yg korang buat dgn kawan. Kuasai IDP betul2, mesti nnti yakin nak masukkan dalam resume yang infrastructure design skill korang MANTAP.
